In 2005 Simon founded Free Practise, a design company that specialises in the museums, galleries and exhibitions.

As creative director, Simon has overseen the making of a prestigious body of work, including major award winning exhibitions (at the British Museum, Mummy: the inside story and in Staffordshire, the Wedgwood Museum); from smaller exhibitions (such as the Zayed National Museum Exhibition in Abu Dhabi); as well as the redesign of complete museums (such as the Jewish Museum in London).

Simon studied for his honours degree in Three Dimensional Design at Leeds Metropolitan University, before starting his career at the British Museum Design Office. Under the celebrated head of design, Margaret Hall (Treasures of Tutankhamun) and acclaimed designer Geoff Pickup (Africa Gallery and Wellcome Gallery) he was educated in powerful interpretive design on a vast number of world-class temporary and permanent gallery projects.

Whether working in house as part of the very best of British exhibition design; Casson Mann Designers, Ivor Heal Design and Event, or direct to small clients or renowned museum institutions, his wide expertise and understanding of visitor’s needs is one of the reasons that Free Practise can offer an unusually wide range of skills, and then blend them into a coherent and integrated whole.
